What each partner brings: character
Numerology compatibility starts with three numbers for each partner: the Driver (Mulank, from the birth day), the Conductor (Bhagyank, from the full date) and the name number. Each number carries the nature of its planet, so the pair of numbers shows how two temperaments meet.
The friendship chart is checked in both directions, because a number can be friendly to its partner while the partner is only neutral in return. Seeing both directions explains why one person often adjusts more than the other.
Working life as a couple
When the Conductor numbers are friendly, couples usually share goals and pull in the same direction at work and at home. When they clash, it helps to agree roles clearly, so each partner leads in their own area.
Both partners' Lo Shu grids are also compared. Numbers one partner lacks that the other brings are shared strengths; numbers missing in both are areas to work on together.
Money and shared decisions
On this site each pair is scored: friendly = 2, neutral or mixed = 1, unfriendly = 0, across the Driver, Conductor and name numbers in both directions, for a maximum of 12. The score is a guide to how easily the couple agrees, especially on money.
A low score does not mean a bad marriage. It shows where patience and remedies are needed.
Guna Milan: the traditional 36 points
Vedic astrology matches couples through the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Ashtakoota Guna Milan has eight parts: Varna (1 point), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8), totalling 36.
Because the Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, the nakshatra must come from the exact birth time and place. The marriage tool on this site calculates it with Lahiri sidereal positions, never from the date alone.
Doshas and family matters
Three parts are watched closely: Nadi, Bhakoot and Gana. A zero in any of them is traditionally called a dosha. Many families look for cancellations and remedies rather than rejecting a match outright.
The tool lists all eight parts, the total out of 36 and any doshas found, so the family can discuss them with an astrologer.
Names in marriage compatibility
Many families check the name the bride will use after marriage as well as her birth name, because the name number enters the friendship check.
If the name number is unfriendly with the partner's numbers, a small spelling change is sometimes suggested; the name tool on this site checks each option.
Remedies for a difficult match
Common remedies include observing the day of a friendly planet together, wearing supportive colours and, for doshas, the traditional pujas an astrologer recommends.
Numerology and astrology describe tendencies. Respect, communication and shared values matter most in any marriage.
