What is Chaldean numerology?
Chaldean numerology is a system that gives each letter of the alphabet a number and adds the letters of your name to find your name number. It is named after the ancient Chaldeans of Babylon. In India it is the most widely used system for name numerology and name correction, and it is the system NumberHealer's name calculator uses.
Chaldean numerology chart: letter values
1 = A, J, S
2 = B, K, T
3 = C, L, U
4 = D, M, V
5 = E, N, W
6 = F, O, X
7 = G, P, Y
8 = H, Q, Z
9 = I, R
This is the exact chart NumberHealer uses in every calculator, report and reading, so the numbers in this article always match your results.

Numbers 1 to 9 only
English letters A–Z only
- 1A J SNumber 1
- 2B K TNumber 2
- 3C L UNumber 3
- 4D M VNumber 4
- 5E N WNumber 5
- 6F O XNumber 6
- 7G P YNumber 7
- 8H Q ZNumber 8
- 9I RNumber 9
These are the same values NumberHealer's name calculator uses.
A note on the number 9
Many Chaldean books treat 9 as a sacred number and give no letter the value 9. The chart NumberHealer follows, supplied by the site's numerologist, gives I and R the value 9. If you compare with another website and get a different total, check how that site values I and R first.
How to calculate your name number
Write your name as you actually use it. Find each letter's value on the chart, add the letters of each name part, then add the parts together and reduce to one digit.
Example, ANIL SHARMA. ANIL: A 1 + N 5 + I 9 + L 3 = 18, and 1 + 8 = 9. SHARMA: S 1 + H 8 + A 1 + R 9 + M 4 + A 1 = 24, and 2 + 4 = 6. Full name: 18 + 24 = 42, and 4 + 2 = 6.
So the first name number is 9 and the full name number is 6. The name calculator shows this working for any name.
Compound numbers, master 11/22 and karmic 13, 14, 16, 19
The two-digit total before the final reduction, such as 42 above, is the compound number. Chaldean numerology reads it as well as the single digit, because two names with the same final digit can have very different compounds.
If a total comes to 11 or 22, NumberHealer keeps it whole as a master number instead of reducing it to 2 or 4.
If a total passes through 13, 14, 16 or 19, it is a karmic debt number. NumberHealer always shows it, for example 14/5, instead of hiding it behind the final digit.
Chaldean vs Pythagorean numerology: which is correct?
Pythagorean numerology gives the letters values in simple alphabet order: A to I are 1 to 9, then J starts again at 1. Chaldean numerology uses the chart above instead. The same name can therefore give different numbers in the two systems.
Neither is wrong; they are different traditions. For name numerology and name correction in India, Chaldean is the usual choice. NumberHealer can show both side by side in a reading, so you can see where they agree and differ.
Using Chaldean numerology for names, baby names and mobile numbers
A name number is checked against your Mulank and Bhagyank. A name whose number is friendly to both is read as supportive.
For a baby name, the starting sound usually comes from the birth Nakshatra, and the Chaldean total of each candidate name is then checked against the child's numbers.
Mobile, car and house numbers are added the same way, digit by digit, and checked against the same friendship chart.
Name correction: when changing a spelling makes sense
Name correction is usually advised when the name number is unfriendly to both Mulank and Bhagyank, or when it carries a difficult karmic compound.
Small changes, like doubling a letter or adding a vowel, change the total without changing how the name sounds. A new spelling only helps if you actually use it: in your signature, on social media and when you introduce yourself.
